Ivermectin – origin
Satoshi Omura – a Japanese microbiologist and bi-organic chemist at Tokyo’s Kitasato Institute searches for medicinally promising compounds from soil samples.
An agreement was made between the Institute and the pharmaceutical company Merck in that the most promising samples be sent to Merck’s Research Laboratory in Rahway, New Jersey U.S.A.
At Merck Research Laboratories a team led by parasitology specialist William Campbell began testing these samples to identify compounds that could lead to potential treatments against parasitic worms.
Whilst conducting worm infestations in mice experiments they discovered a new bacterium that proved very effective. They gave it the name Streptomyces Avertmectinius. When the active compound was isolated it was named Avermectin.
Merck scientists found that, with slight chemical modification, some of the Avermectin compounds displayed enhanced activity as well as safety. They dubbed the resulting pair of Avermectin derivatives Ivermectin.
Ivermectin was 25 times more potent than existing treatments for parasitic worms.
please read the pdf from ACS (American Chemical Society) – Merck and Co Inc. … Discovery of Ivermectin. In it can be found the discoveries of it’s use in humans. Diseases that have blighted many people around the world.
google “Discovery of Ivermectin – American Chemical Society”
Ivermectin has been use in almost 4 billion doses (USA or English billion – anyone?) – only 16 recorded deaths. Safer I’m told than Ibuprofen. chk reqd
WordPress.org … Quagmire!
Well it’s been one week since hatching and progress has been made – tiny steps for The Ludd chick aka Fogeyman.
My first named visitor made an appearance, Christina – U.S.A. and Ecuador had a peep.
I know little about Ecuador (ignorance of course) – now’s the time to start my education – It’s capital is Quito.

Rascal Jascal
This blog was started in response to my youngest daughter’s request as to where I found the sources for the information I had stumbled across.
Rascal Jascal is one of the names I called my dog.
I am a “Fogeyman” in the eyes of the young.
Some of the articles have yet to be completed. I’ll start using abbreviations in some articles … such as chk reqd (check required) … maybe abbreviations for awaiting verification or yet to confirm source or identity of source.
“A blog Dad !” … “You can barely use the mobile” (this is true so save yourselves time in a fact checking exercise).
I hope to have comments opposing those views I have expressed … therefore we just might get to the bottom of a particular riddle.
Anybody who wishes that I take off the few posts that have profanities in them (there won’t be many – I promise) I’ll respect their wishes and remove them.
Enough said I can smell a whiff of something in the air.
Just to add – I’m not a Doctor or do I offer any medical advice, privately or on this site.
You will have to decide yourself whether a post has any merits. I hope it will lead you to do some research too. Best of luck.
